Type 1 Diabetes Distress is what some people feel when they are overwhelmed by the ongoing demands of living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1DM).

There is no question that T1DM management is relentless and can be exhausting. It’s an ongoing, difficult disease to manage, and can be complicated. Often people with T1DM feel the disease is controlling their life instead of them controlling the disease. It’s discouraging when you are trying so hard for good blood sugar control, but you aren’t getting the results you expect.

Type 1 Diabetes Distress can include feelings of frustration, worry, guilt, anger, sadness, being alone, etc. And poor behaviors can follow T1DM Distress such as over-eating too many carbohydrates or ignoring your T1DM control. The reason why it’s so important to recognize and acknowledge T1DM Distress within yourself, and what thoughts, emotions, and behaviors come along with your T1DM Distress is because it can lead to T1DM Burnout, poor mental health, and even chronic depression and/or anxiety. The more you understand about T1DM Distress, and can recognize your own signals, the more likely you will be able to take appropriate steps SOONER to prevent worsening of your Distress, and spiraling to Burnout, depression and/or anxiety.

There are many ways to go about doing this, and awareness is really your first step. However, if you find Distress coming up within you frequently and/or Burnout, I highly encourage you to look in to my program, The Type 1 Diabetes Distress Solution. There is a wealth of knowledge and wisdom contained within this program that will guide you to a healthier, happier, and more balanced place in your life.

Another option is to sign up for one of my Transformative Diabetes Coaching packages to work 1:1 with me. You will gain insight in to what is preventing you from gaining greater control over your blood sugar levels, mental-emotional and spiritual health, as well as acquire tools, tips, and strategies to improve and maintain balance in every area of your life.

Don’t forget that having support in your life is HUGE in being successful in managing your Type 1 Diabetes as well as your mental-emotional and spiritual well-being over time. We must have community to truly thrive in this life 🙂 Included with any of The Holistic Type 1 offerings is the monthly to bi-monthly Holistic Type 1 Table Talk that integrates community and sharing around the roller coaster of living with Type 1 Diabetes.
